I photographed this family’s little girl when she was a newborn baby, and I was pleased to hear that I would be meeting her again as she had a baby sister on the way. The original photo shoot was local to me in Maida Vale, and the family have since relocated to North West London, so I was delighted they chose to work with me again.
We arranged for me to come to their home to do the photo shoot when the new baby was 9 days old, which meant that she would be sleepy for much of the session. This would allow us to capture lots of sleepy newborn shots, as well as leave plenty of time to catch up with her older sister and get some individual portraits while the baby was feeding or resting.
We arranged for me to arrive in the morning at a time when the older daughter would be awake and alert, and I spent quite a lot of time chatting to her and playing some games – making sure that she was comfortable and happy.
It’s hard to beat the simplicity of a B&W newborn portrait:
We made good use of the large windows overlooking the sunlit garden for beautiful sleeping newborn photographs of the new baby in her father’s arms:
From the archives – here is a photograph of her older sister – you can really see the resemblance.
