Children’s Photographer Barnes and Richmond: Spring Family Shoot

I spent a gorgeous sunny day on Barnes Common with a lovely family recently. The common was perfect for family photographs as there were beautiful wild backdrops, with so much variety of scenery and gorgeous light. I have often photographed children in Richmond and surrounding areas, but I had not yet done a shoot on the Common. I will definitely be coming back here with other families. I look forward to blogging a wider selection of the rest of the photographs from this photo shoot, but here is just one for now:

Studio Portraits Marylebone: A Few From Recent Shoot

These studio style portraits were taken with a mobile lighting set up on location in Marylebone, London W1.

Studio portrait of young woman London MaryleboneThey show what can be achieved using quite simple studio lighting. I like the serious expression on the girl’s face, and the graphic effect of the fringed black wool jacket. This photograph works well as a headshot for a college or drama school application, or as a classic portrait for parents whose sons or daughters are teenagers and fast becoming young adults. For more examples of photographs of children and teenagers from Marylebone and other Central London locations, please view the galleries here.

Studio headshots like this are useful for young actors or drama students, as well as performers. The lighting looks natural, and virtually indistinguishable from portraits lit by the soft light from large north facing windows.

(I am currently working with this photograph a lot as it is perfect for a beautiful type of printing paper that I am experimenting with at the moment – more about this later.)

Business Headshots on London’s South Bank

Earlier this week I photographed some business headshots and portraits for a talented rug designer based on the South Bank in London.

London BUsiness Headshots on the South Bank

Teresa Collins works in a sunny studio shop in London’s iconic Oxo Tower. The studio is full of beautiful rugs, framed designs, coloured wools and silks and carefully chosen mood boards. Teresa told me that her love of colour and textiles stem from her childhood in India, and she now draws inspiration for the colours and tones of her designs from lanscapes, both countryside and urban.

During the relaxed photo shoot, we had a long chat about her influences and how she works; finding common ground in our ideas about drawing, use of colour, and the creative partnership between artist/designer and client.

Teresa’s rugs are works of art. The colours are restrained and subtle and the materials – wool and silk – are rich and luxurious. I highly recommend a visit to Studio Teresa Collins on the South Bank to see them in real life.

Teresa contacted me because was looking for professional business headshots to use on her website and for interviews and publicity. These portraits are examples of the kind of work that I can offer small businesses, artisans, designers and artists who want a professional photographer who is willing to take the time to work with them to achieve exactly the look they are aiming for. There are more examples of creative and flattering business headshots here in my galleries on the website.

Professional Headshots in London W1

Professional headshot of psychotherapist London W1

Here are a few photographs from a headshot session for three local psychotherapists who have consulting rooms nearby in Wimpole Street. They have a new website and were looking to commission some headshots for all three practitioners. They wanted consistency in lighting, background and overall feel of the shots; as well as good expressions.

I aim to not only get a professional and flattering photo of each person, but also to give a feel for their character and personality. I usually find that we get the best shots when the person being photographed has had time to relax and we have got to know one another a little; and I really appreciated the chance to talk to each of them about their therapeutic approach and how it all works.
