I picked this rose from my small container garden on my balcony just after it had rained.

I bought this particular rose - Abraham Darby - during the bleakest part of the 3rd lockdown, and it has been a small pleasure watching it grow and come into bloom. The generous rosettes of petals are beautiful. However, I preferred the picture from this angle where you can see the sculptural form of the flower.

I make each cyanotype print by hand coating cotton rag paper with a specially mixed light sensitive solution in very dim lighting. I then let it dry overnight. I expose it under a large negative and a piece of glass, usually the sun. I then rinse the paper in water and the blue image emerges.

Each print is slightly different due to the brushstrokes and other variations in the handmade process.
