These pieces are from a shoot with my friend Cherry in 2019. My aim was to convey the freedom and pleasure of swimming underwater. The cyanotype process was selected because the swimmers are literally in the ‘blue’ as well as the painterly effect with splashes enhance the feel of the water.

Each cyanotype print is made by hand coating cotton rag paper with a light sensitive solution and exposing it to UV light, usually the sun. The paper is then rinsed with water, dried and flattened.

Each print is unique due to variations in the brushstrokes and it being a handmade process, and each is signed and dated.
