Swimmer Cyanotypes 'Up In Lights'

So thrilled with how my Swimmer Cyanotype prints look in this beautiful installation outside Brixton Recreation Centre.

I made the first of my Swimmer cyanotypes during lockdown when all the swimming pools were closed.

I was yearning for the feeling of being in the pool, and the prints were an attempt to recapture that. I used the details in the prints to conjure up the feel of the pool - the ripples refracted on the tiles of the pool and on the swimmers’ bodies, and the anonymity of the swim caps and goggles.

Looking at the swimmers, I want people to feel the weightlessness and euphoria of being underwater in the pool.

The exhibition came about through a collaberation between Photofusion, Lambeth Council and Active Lambeth, and includes a portrait of one of the staff members at Brixton Rec.
