This print is made in a similar way to a traditional etching, where a plate is created, inked by hand, and put through the press.

This print is part of a series of studies I made of Roses last autumn. I was fascinated by the texture of the petals, still full of the softness and curves of the rose in full bloom, but with the slightest hint of decay at the edges. The subject and the play of light and shadow remind me of the memento mori flower and fruit still lifes of the Dutch painters.

The tiny flaws on the rose’s petals are mirrored in the flaw in the glass of the UV unit that I used to make the plate. Look at the details and you will see a tiny scratch on the print. This was present at the moment the plate was created, and is on every print. I decided to keep it as I like the element of chance, and the touch of the human hand in the work.

Prints are made to order and will be sent out when fully dried and flattened - usually within one to two weeks.
